My Pick: Germany
Hosts Germany play surprise package Ecuador in a game which will not only decide the winner of Group A, but also determine the team most likely to play England in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
The Germans have won both their games en route to this one but so have the South Americans. Jurgen Klinsmann's men have scored 5 and conceded 2, while Ecuador have scored as many and have kept clean sheets in both the games. The German defence has been given a boost with Christophe Metzelder deemed fit to play. It was a bit shaky against the Costa Ricans but their attacking play came to their rescue. In their game against the Poles, the Germans virtually dominated for 90 minutes but needed a late Oliver Neuville goal to snatch a last gasp win. They will again start with Klose and Podolski, who will be keen to open his goal scoring, upfront. Michael Ballack would like to have a say in things in midfield. On a yellow card: Michael Ballack,u nheralded David Odonkor and Metzelder.
Ecuador have truly been the surprise package of the World Cup. They were impressive during their wins over CRC and Poland and will be brimming with confidence going into this game. For a team backed to finish last, this has truly been a faboulous dream. They play with a lot of flair and the Germans too play an attacking brand of football. This games promises to be a visual treat for the fans and the neutrals alike. Man to watch: Carlos Tenorio On a yellow--Castillo,De la Cruz ,Mora,Mendez and Hurtado.
My verdict:
A draw would mean Ecuador top the group and therefore Germany will go all guns booming for a win. That does mean that they may leave holes in defence which can be exposed
with swift counterattacks.Still I think Germany's experience at this level will see them prevail.
